The Strawberry Shortcakes Fundraiser   2008 Letter to All Members

The Strawberry Shortcakes idea was introduced by Rotarian Marie Rickard as a fundraising project in 2001. Orders grew from a few hundred to just over 3,000 in 2005 and 4,200 in 2006. The club is targeting more than 5,000 sales in 2007.

During the first year the cakes were baked by students in the commercial cooking program at Lord Shaughnessy Vocational High School. Calgary West has provided funding and volunteer support for Lord Shaughnessy since 1984.

Until 2007, Rotarians assembled the shortcakes in the commercial kitchen facilities at
St. Mary's Church Hall. St. Mary's operates Feed The Hungry, a project supported by Calgary West.

In 2007 Calgary West is pleased to partner with the Calgary Co-op. The Co-op is providing baking, assembly of the shortcakes and marketing support. We greatly appreciate the support of all our sponsors.
