String Group Performance

The Strings program at Bishop Carroll High School is an award-winning music initiative offering four orchestral string ensembles (violin, viola, cello, double bass), designed to span from beginner to pre-professional levels:

  • Ensemble Eruditio (Beginner Strings)
  • Ensemble Intermezzo (Intermediate)
  • Cantabile Strings (Advanced/flowing style)
  • Virtuosi Strings (High-level, highly skilled)

Key highlights of the program include:

  • Rehearsals occur three hours per week during the school day.
  • School instruments are available to rent.
  • Students with prior experience may audition in early September for placement in the higher-level ensembles.
  • All ensembles participate in several major concerts each year, including Christmas and Spring concerts, and the annual “String Fling” in February.
  • The program is enriched by visits from clinicians affiliated with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Mount Royal University Conservatory.
  • Remarkably, students can earn up to 30 high-school credits through participation in this Strings program.
