The meeting on September 26th was labelled a “Hodge Podge” meeting with a variety of topics being covered. It started with the Land Acknowledgement – a Tsuut’ina legend:

In the mid-1700s, our ancestors traversed cold and unrelenting lands across Northern Alberta. As one large group they travelled south, migrating for food, when they came across a large frozen lake. The Chiefs told everyone, “hurry across the ice.” “The ice is thin,” they said.

One woman was crossing with her child on her back, and he began to cry for an object sticking out of the ice. He wanted it for a toy. The woman kept telling him that the Chiefs were hurrying everyone across the ice, but the child kept crying. She relented and released the axe attached to her belt to begin chopping at the object. She cleaved and she hacked, and the object awoke as the horn of the Taslani, a dragon. An angered Tastlani broke through the ice, and the ice split. Many of our people died, and the rest were separated. The Tsuut’ina kept on their path south, while the Dene remained and returned north. If you visit the Xani-tii Guk’a Sidodi (Buffalo Lake, north of Edmonton) today, it is said you can still hear the people crying. — as told by Bruce Starlight.

After the singing of O’Canada there was introduction of the guests in the room.  There were 28 people in attendance at this “in person” only meeting.

President Linda monitored a discussion on several topics – how many hours of volunteering was appropriate; number of follow-up emails were needed and should there be a charge for Zoom meetings ($5.00);

Barbie Hames supervised a 1950’s quiz and quicky questions re turkeys.  It provided some laughter and a general admission that in several areas the members knew very little.

Happy Bucks were started again.  President Linda was so happy that Marlene Doherty has stepped up to fill the Secretary position for this year.   Also she was happy that Dan Doherty was at our fall walk with his motorhome to return those to the “Beer Hall” after completing the one way (3 kilometer) walk from Turner Valley to Black Diamond.  It was a beautiful day and about 16 members and guests were there to enjoy nature and add to their polio steps.  Happy Bucks were also provided by Judy Cochran, Darren Grierson, Debbie McMillan, Pat Fitzsimmons and Marlene Doherty.

President Linda gave a special recognition of  the contribution sof Judy Cochran as tireless worker on various Rotary committees and projects.

Mad Minutes:
Pat Fitzsimmons provided an update on the upcoming Bocce Ball evening.  There are 28 people signed up so the evening is on.  There is certainly room for more members and partners to join.  If you are looking for a fund evening, contact Pat or sign up through Club Runner.

Don Edie indicated that he had posted the 2021-2022 financial statements on club runner for all to read before the fall assembly scheduled for October 13th.

Kurt Scheer advised that we have approved funding for our first LCS project this year - $5,000.00 to support teaching English to Ukrainian refugees.

Chris Ritter thanked those who volunteered to assist with Club communications.  He has posted a sign up sheet for meeting set up, greeters and other positions that need to be filled for each meeting.

Robyn Braley reminded us of the district webinar that he is giving relating to social media called ‘Social Media – In plain language’ on October 19th between 7 and 8:30. He will be covering content creation tips and facebook.

Judy Cochran announced the approval of the pooled district grant to equip a sensory room in the Children's Cottage New Child Center and showed slides of the ground breaking ceremony.

President Linda announced that the Fall General Assembly will be held the evening of October 13th, 2022 at 6:00 pm with the location to be confirmed.  This is a members only gathering and a chance for you to ask questions on the budget and other concerns that you might have or direction that you would like to see taken by the Club.

A THOUGHT:  If you are grateful for something in your life, you have to find a way to put some of that grateful energy back into the world instead of holding onto it. That’s the only way to keep it flowing. That’s the only way gratitude can come back to you. If you have your antenna up while you perform your microgestures, you’ll start to notice the flow and you’ll start to better appreciate when some of it flows back your way.  – Larayia Gaston – Author of Love Without Reason” and founder of non profit – Lunchonme
